Accessibility statement for Active Bystander eLearning

The Active Bystander Training Company is committed to making its eLearning content as accessible as possible to everyone, including people with visual, hearing, cognitive and motor impairments.

Measures to support accessibility

We take the following measures to ensure accessibility of our eLearning content: –

  • We supply closed captions and transcripts for all time-based media such as animation or audio
  • We allow navigation using just a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • We allow users to listen to the content using a screen reader
  • We provide alternative text for images
  • We ensure our interfaces are easily accessible and understandable
  • Our text contrast levels meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA standards

Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2

Wherever possible, the Active Bystander eLearning course adheres to level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2). These guidelines outline four main principles which state that sites should be:

  • Perceivable – Information and user interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive
  • Operable – User interface components and navigation must be operable
  • Understandable – Information and the operation of user interface must be understandable
  • Robust – Content must be robust enough that it can be interpreted reliably by a wide variety of user agents, including assistive technologies

Active Bystander creates its eLearning content using the Articulate 360 suite. Along with our measures, the tool also has its own accessibility measures in place. You can view the Accessibility conformance report (VPAT) for Storyline 360 and accessibility FAQs on the Articulate 360 website.

Optimising your set-up for your needs

The AbilityNet website provides guidance to make your computer more accessible, enabling computer users to make the most of the internet whatever their ability or disability. It offers help with seeing the screen, using your keyboard and mouse, hearing sounds and with reading and spelling.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

There are a couple of occurrences where the screen reader overlaps two pieces of information simultaneously making it hard to listen to. This information can be navigated back to if this happens.

The downloadable Active Bystander Toolkit to support the online eLearning content is in PDF format. This only meets aspects of Level AA but a fully WCAG 2.2 Level AA compatible version is available on request by emailing info@activebystander.co.uk.

Testing

Active Bystander tests its content on at least two versions of current major browsers. We no longer test in Internet Explorer. Some aspects of the content may not display or function as expected in older and non-supported browsers such as Internet Explorer 9.

Reporting accessibility problems with our eLearning

We’re always looking to improve the accessibility of our learning. If you find any problems or have any suggestions for improvements, then please contact us at: info@activebystander.co.uk.
